Rules

General

- NEW! Retirement Rule: No model that has won a 1st place in category or master award in a previous Wasatch Wheels contest may be entered again.
- Models entered must be 100% the work of the entrant. 
- Any medium allowed, (plastic, metal, etc), diecast models are allowed in most classes but must have been disassembled, stripped and repainted by the modeler.
- No prepainted models
- Any techniques, materials, and parts may be used to construct the model except for the Box Stock class as noted below.
- Members of the Utah Miniature Automotive Guild (UMAG) are ineligible for competition but a table will be set aside for UMAG members to display their models.

Classes

Box Stock: Model must be built only with parts included in the kit and as the manufacturer of the kit intended.  No aftermarket parts allowed.  Detail wiring allowed only if included in the kit by the manufacturer.  No scratch built parts or details allowed.  No modifications to kit parts allowed except to increase depth or open up molded in details such as exhaust tips, vents, and grilles. Any paint, glue, decals and foil are allowed.  No prepainted diecasts or kits. Kit instructions must be supplied and displayed with the model.

Commerical: Models of vehicles of a commercial nature such as shop trucks, big rigs, farm trucks, military light armor, (no tanks) and emergency vehicles. 

Competition: Models of vehicles designed primarily for some type of motorsport such as drag racing, land speed racing, rally, road course or oval track.

Curbside: These models will not be picked up for judging.  Engine compartment must be enclosed, no complete visible engines allowed, though some visible engine parts are acceptable such as headers, hood scoops or a supercharger sticking out of the hood.  Blacked out windows are allowed but such models will be at a disadvantage in judging against models with visible interiors.  As in all other classes basic craftsmanship is the priority in judging however creative models will have an advantage in this class.

Custom: Models of vehicles modified primarily for aesthetics, major body modifications are expected.  Vehicle modeled does not have to be street legal but should have all the components  required to define it as a car.

Factory Production: Models of production vehicles in 100% stock form, in other words, just as they came out of the factory, however weathered models are allowed in this class as well but the model must still represent a fully stock vehicle. Replicas of factory concept vehicles are also allowed in this class. 

Junior: Entrants must be 17 years of age or younger and the model must be 100% the work of the entrant.

Miscellaneous:  Models that don't fit any other classes but are automotive in subject, such as strictly off road vehicles, caricature models, tractors, construction vehicles, and boats featuring automotive engines.  No military tanks, ships, or airplanes.

Modified Pickup: Any vehicle that came from the factory with pickup bed that has been modfied such as lifted 4x4's, mini trucks, shop trucks, etc.  except racing trucks which will still be entered in the competition class. Factory stock pickups should still be entered in the Factory Stock class.


Small Scale: Models smaller than 1/35 (ie: 1/43, 1/48, 1/64, 1/72, 1/76, 1/87).  All automotive subjects and building styles allowed. Diecast models are allowed (ie: Hot Wheels, Matchbox, etc). but the models must be completely disassembled, stripped and repainted by the entrant.

Street Machine:  Models of vehicles manufactured from 1949 to the present that are modified from stock primarily for performance, though cosmetic modifications are allowed that don't reach the level of making the car a custom. Street legal all terrain vehicles belong in this class as well, (ie: lifted jeeps). Vehicle represented must be street legal.

Street Rod: Models of vehicles manufactured prior to 1949 that are modified from stock primarily for performance, though cosmetic modifications are allowed that don't reach the level of making the car a custom. Street legal all terrain vehicles also belong on this class, (ie: lifted jeeps). Vehicle represented must be street legal.
